What is more important here, is not the brand but the type or you may say the style of hearing aid the meed the need of an individual. The easiest way is to categorize the types of hearing aids according to the needs.

Hearing aids can essentially be placed in three categories.

  • Custom in-the-ear models (ITE)
  • Behind-the-ear (BTE)
  • Receiver in the ear (RITE)

Custom in-the-ear models

Custom in-the-ear models are custom made to fit the contours of your ear canal.

  • Deep CanalDeep Canal hearing aids

Created to fit deep within the ear canal, making these hearing aids completely invisible. Suitable in mild to moderate hearing losses, but not for people with narrow ear canals or dexterity problems

  • Completely in the CanalCIC Hearing aids

This may also be the smallest hearing aid suitable for people with narrow ear canals. Suitable in mild to moderately severe hearing loss.

  • In-the-Canal (ITC)
  • Half Shell (HS)
  • In-the-Ear (ITE)

Behind-the-Ear models

Behind-the-Ear hearing aid

The shell of this hearing aid sits behind the ear as suggest by the name. These days they are small enough to be hidden behind your ear. This shell is connected to a moulded receiver and fits comfortably in the outer ear. These hearing aids offer a variety of functions and are suitable in mild to profound hearing loss.

Receiver-in-Canale (Receiver in the Ear)

Receiver in Canal hearing devices

This particular type is the combination of “BTE” and “Custom ITE” models simply by moving the microphone to the outer ear by connecting a thin transparent tube to the shell. This improvisation results in a virtually invisible hearing aid with the comfort of Open-fitting whilst maximising wind noise suppression. It is recommended for people with mild or to moderately severe hearing loss.
